Will I Fail A Drug Test If I Take CBD?

will i fail a drug test if i use cbd

Upon learning cannabidiol (CBD) is derived from hemp, many people wonder if using it will result in failed drug tests. This is a completely understandable question, as CBD comes from the same plant as THC, which is found in Marijuana. As great as the benefits of CBD are, it isn’t worth losing a potential job or an athletic career over.

Whether CBD will show up on a drug test or not is based on many different factors, so let’s dive in.

What Is Getting Tested?

There is a huge variety when it comes to what will be tested. At first, calling whoever is administering the test to learn this could be considered. However, calling the testing facility instead is the best option. Specimens for testing can include:

  • Urine
  • Saliva
  • Blood
  • Hair

What is the Test Looking For?

When it comes to drug tests, they are defined by the number of “panels”. Each of these panels represents a separate substance that will trigger a failed test. The most common drug tests are 5-Panel and 10-Panel, and they look for the following substances:

5-Panel

  • Amphetamines
  • Cannabinoids
  • Cocaine
  • Opiates
  • Phencyldine

10-Panel

  • Amphetamines
  • Barbiturates
  • Benzodiazepines
  • Cannabinoids
  • Cocaine
  • Methaqualone
  • Opiate
  • Phencyclidine
  • Methadone
  • Propoxyphene

(Keep in mind, this is not an exhaustive list of the different kinds of drug tests institutions use).

After looking through the previous lists, you can see THC is included in both, meaning it is widely tested for. Fortunately, urine tests for THC are not known to show for other cannabinoids like CBD, CBG, CBN and more. Therefore, a drug test looking for THC should not show a positive result for CBD.

CBD from Hemp VS CBD from Marijuana

Even with that being said, a CBD product can contain THC if it is full spectrum or sourced from Marijuana. If the CBD product is sourced from marijuana, it is likely there is more than .3% THC in it, and should be avoided if looking to pass a drug test.

CBD sourced from Hemp contains less than 0.3% THC content. Even though 0.3% is a small amount (not enough to get you high) it could still show a positive result for THC if you are taking an unusually high amount of a hemp oil.

If you are currently using CBD products, make sure to investigate where they are sourced from. Alternatively, if you are a loyal customer of ours, feel free to breathe a sigh of relief, since all our CBD is sourced from Hemp.

Another thing to keep in mind is the type of sample being taken. The above information is mostly referencing a urine test. A hair, nail or saliva test may increase chances of THC showing up in a drug screen.

If you are subject to any form of drug testing or screening, we recommend that you do not ingest this product. Please consult with your healthcare practitioner and drug screening/testing company or employer before consuming these products.

THC-Free CBD Products
